Nurturing...

I've had a bad week. And from what I'm hearing here and there, I'm not alone. 'Tis the season, I suppose. Most of us are either sick, having financial troubles, growing tired of winter and needing fresh air that doesn't take your breath away. It's tough. The kids are crazy, life is hard. I've not dealt with my mood well this week. Not for lack of trying...I have tried nearly everything. I ignored, I pushed through, I wallowed, I got mad, I cried, I did nothing at all...but none of those things have worked.

But today, my eldest daughter came down with the flu. She got sick. And I knew just what to do for her. After picking her up from school, I tucked her in on the couch with a warm blanket and a soft pillow. I made her soup, rubbed her back, let her rest. I encouraged her to give her body what it was asking for; sleep when she felt tired, eat when she felt hungry, drink when she was thirsty. I don't think my efforts will get rid of her flu. But I do hope to make her more comfortable through it and help her body to rest and recharge.

It's funny how my instincts kicked in so quickly with my daughter, but when I wasn't feeling well, I tried to tell myself to 'get over it'. I got angry with myself instead of helping my body to rest and recharge. I'm thinking that had I just been a little gentler on myself, perhaps I could have gotten over this a bit quicker. So, today, for all of us here, it's been warm blankets and sweet gestures, hot tea, chicken soup with blueberry muffins, plenty of rest & fluids, and good nurturing thoughts. I only hope that the next time I'm not feeling well, my instincts to nurture myself will kick in a bit quicker.
I wish you all a very nurturing end to your week! And although I may pop in over the weekend, I will be announcing the winner of the Spiced Pomegranate Body Scrub on Monday!

Wishing you and yours a swift recovery. I know having sick little ones makes a long day for the Momma of the house.

Hope you can leave your rough week behind and I hope your little one is feeling better very soon! I just hate it when the kids are sick!

I think you need to come to my weekend get-away too, Maegan:

I hope that if I get sick in the future, you'll come over and nurture and take care of me! I hope your daughter feels better soon!

Gosh, I know just how that is! Too often we don't take care of ourselves because we see it as being selfish. But don't we deserve the same care as the other people around us?

I hope you and your daughter get to feeling better soon :)

I do the same thing... which is why when I get sick it tends to stick around longer. We mama's are a tough breed though :)
Take care of yourself and your little one! Thank you for this...

What a great realization.

I hope you have a relaxing weekend, get feeling better and that next week is amazing to make up for a not so great one.

I am so sorry your little girl is sick. the flu certainly been making the rounds. I understand your mom instinct, I also understand the frustration of refusing to get sick. I thanked god for letting me get sick last so that I could care for my babies, but still like you I still had sick ones and they will always come first..
I will pray for your family, to heal quickly and to be blessed with rest, comfort and god's great healing..You will remain in my thoughts.

Aww, here are to big hugs (one for you and one for the sick sweety) I think you are so eloquent, :), I am sorry about your week and I hope it gets better (along with your daughter) and I hope, even if you "mood" doesn't go away right away that you are comfortable yourself, as is passes.

I know how you feel. My little girl has been unwell this week too. Although luckily not with flu. Just wanted to do everything I can to make her feel better.
And I know what you mean about yourself too. I just don't do ill! It's just too much of an inconvenience. Although do any mothers actually have time to be ill!!?
